Occupied Ecologies: Inherited Toxicity |
Tracing toxicity as it moves across soil, water, air, and bodies, this research-based installation for Amman Design Week brings together distinct geographies as part of an entangled planetary system in which toxic materials are weaponized, tested, deployed, stored, and re-encountered.
Through a three-channel video conceived as a fictional hearing, the installation invites testimonies from communities living within toxic flows and confronting often invisible forms of environmental violence. Tracing the flows of military toxicity across three interconnected sites: weapon testing in Vieques, Puerto Rico; military deployment in Iraqi cities; and storage and containment in parts of the U.S. The exhibition asks why toxicity is administratively and politically containable while remaining ecologically mobile, and what intergenerational resistance reveals that official state records withhold. Moving between testimonies, maps, archives, and photographs, the installation is conceived as a contaminated field, moving between the three entangled traces and positioning the viewer from the molecular to the territorial scales.
